Where Can You Publish AI-Narrated Audiobooks?
Every store, distributor and library platform, whether it accepts AI narration, the label it wants, and how to get your audiobook there.
In this article
AI narration has gone from a grey area to a normal option at most audiobook stores. The catch is that every store has its own rules: some take AI audio from anyone, some only from their own tools, and one big one still says no.
You can publish an AI-narrated audiobook on Spotify, Google Play Books and Kobo directly, and reach Apple Books, Storytel, Chirp and libraries through a distributor. Audible doesn’t accept AI narration you made yourself, and your own website has no rules at all.
This guide covers every place we know of, checked against each platform’s own help pages in October 2026, with the label each one wants and the quickest way in. For the money side, royalties and reach, see our 8 best places to sell audiobooks.

Rules change quickly. Before you publish, check the store’s own help page, which we link from each section.
Stores you can upload to yourself
These three accept AI-narrated audiobooks straight from you, with no distributor taking a cut.
Spotify
Spotify accepts digital voice narration through Spotify for Authors, its free and non-exclusive upload tool. When you upload, tick This audiobook uses digital voice narration, and Spotify adds a short sentence to your description so listeners know. It pays 50% of the price when someone buys your audiobook, plus a share of a pool when Premium members listen.
One limit: AI-narrated audiobooks stay on Spotify. Spotify doesn’t pass them on to its distribution partner, Voices by INaudio, the way it does for human-narrated books.

Read the full steps in our guide to publishing on Spotify.
Google Play Books
Google Play accepts AI-narrated audiobooks uploaded through its Partner Center. Set the narrator to Synthesized voice, and you can say whether it’s unspecified, male, female or based on a real actor. Direct audiobook selling is open to select publishers in 12 countries, so check that your account can add audiobooks before you plan around it.
Google’s content policy also bans “low-quality, unclear machine-read audio”. A clear, well-checked narration is fine. A rushed one can be removed.
See our Google Play guide for the upload steps and file specs.
Kobo
Kobo Writing Life says yes to AI narration and asks you to list the narrator as a synthesized voice: Synthesized Voice, Female Synthesized Voice or Male Synthesized Voice in its FAQ, or “Synthesised voice - female”, “- male” or “- unspecified” on its newer AI page. Pick whichever your dashboard offers, and mention it in your description. Kobo pays 45% of your price at $2.99 or more, and it’s never exclusive.
One thing to know: Kobo Writing Life can’t send audiobooks to libraries. For libraries, use a distributor (see below).

The steps are in our Kobo guide.
Stores you reach through a distributor
Apple Books, Storytel, Chirp, BookBeat, Audiobooks.com and the library apps don’t take uploads from individual authors. You send your audiobook to a distributor, which delivers it to them. For AI narration, which distributor you choose matters more than anything else, because each has its own rules.
| Distributor | AI audio it accepts | What you keep | Stores that take your AI audiobook |
|---|---|---|---|
| Author’s Republic | From any AI tool, if the quality is acceptable | 80% of what stores pay | A long list, including Apple Books, Chirp, Kobo, Libro.fm, OverDrive, Spotify and Storytel |
| PublishDrive | From any AI tool, for most stores | 100% of what stores pay, for a monthly fee | Google Play, Kobo, OverDrive, Spotify, Storytel and more. Not Apple or Audible |
| Voices by INaudio | Only unmodified files from Google Play Books, ElevenLabs or Spoken Press | 80% of what stores pay | Its participating retail partners |
Author’s Republic
Author’s Republic accepts AI-narrated audiobooks made with any AI engine, “as long as the quality is acceptable”. It asks two questions about AI when you upload and adds “This audiobook is narrated by an AI voice.” to your description. If you use a clone of your own voice, you still mark it as AI.
Its FAQ keeps a dated list of the stores that take AI-narrated books. In October 2026 it includes Apple Books, Audiobooks.com, BookBeat, Chirp, Everand, Google, Kobo, Libro.fm, Nextory, OverDrive, Spotify and Storytel.

The same list also names Amazon and Audible, which doesn’t match ACX’s own rule (human narration only) or what other distributors say. Until that’s cleared up, treat Audible as a no and ask Author’s Republic’s support before you count on it.
PublishDrive
PublishDrive charges a monthly fee instead of a cut, and it delivers AI-narrated audiobooks to Google Play, Kobo, OverDrive, Spotify, Storytel and others when you add the narrating tool and voice to the contributor details. For OverDrive, your description has to start with “This audiobook is narrated by AI.”
Apple Books and Audible are the exceptions. PublishDrive’s table now says Apple only accepts AI narration made with Apple’s own narration tool, and Audible only with Amazon’s.

Voices by INaudio
Voices by INaudio, which used to be Findaway Voices, is the biggest audiobook distributor. It accepts digital voice narration, but only as an unmodified package from Google Play Books, ElevenLabs or Spoken Press. Audio from any other tool, including a plain MP3 export, can’t go through its AI workflow. It sets the narrator credit and adds a disclosure to your description for you, and misreporting AI audio as human can lead to removal.
Apple Books
Apple’s own audiobook guidelines allow AI narration, as long as you say so in the title or narrator field and in the description. Getting there is the hard part:
- PublishDrive no longer delivers outside AI narration to Apple.
- Author’s Republic lists Apple Books among the stores that accept AI books.
- Voices by INaudio only takes AI audio from its three providers.
- Apple’s own digital narration turns an eligible English ebook into an audiobook for free, but the audio is made by Apple and sold on Apple Books.
For a book narrated with your own tool, Author’s Republic is the route to try today. Our Apple Books guide has the full steps.
Storytel
Storytel accepts AI narration when it’s labelled, in the contributor field and the metadata. Its format is the narrator’s name followed by “(AI voice)”, or “(Authorized voice replica)” for a cloned voice. It also expects “high vocal quality” and correct pronunciation. Storytel says it can take down unlabelled AI content without telling you. You reach it through Author’s Republic or PublishDrive.
Chirp, BookBeat, Audiobooks.com and Libro.fm
- Chirp, BookBub’s audiobook store, lists AI-narrated titles with an “AI Voice” narrator. Reach it through Author’s Republic or Voices by INaudio.
- BookBeat and Audiobooks.com are on Author’s Republic’s list of stores that accept AI-narrated books.
- Libro.fm sells AI-narrated audiobooks and labels them, but says it will never promote or market them, and it refunds buyers who didn’t realise.
Libraries
Libby (OverDrive) carries AI-narrated audiobooks when they’re flagged in the metadata. You reach it through PublishDrive, Author’s Republic or Voices by INaudio.

Libby readers can now hide AI-narrated audiobooks with a Human narrators only setting. By default it only applies when they browse titles their own library doesn’t own yet, but it’s one more reason to label your narration honestly. A mislabelled book that a reader filtered out on purpose is the fastest way to a bad review.
Hoopla, another library platform, removed low-quality AI-generated books in 2025 and hasn’t published a clear rule on AI narration, so check with your distributor before you count on it.
Your own website and shop
Selling from your own site has no narration rules at all, and you keep the most money. Gumroad, Shopify and Payhip all let listeners buy and download your files directly. It’s still worth saying the narration is AI on your product page: readers who know what they’re buying don’t ask for refunds.
See our guides to selling on Gumroad, Shopify and Payhip. BookFunnel can also deliver audiobooks to your readers, on its Mid-List plan or higher with the audio add-on.
YouTube allows AI narration too. Its rules ask you to disclose realistic AI content (a clone of your own voice reading your own words doesn’t need it), and it doesn’t pay creators for mass-produced content made from templates, so treat it as a place to share sample chapters rather than a store.
Where AI narration isn’t accepted
Audible and ACX
ACX, the way onto Audible, says audiobooks “must be narrated by a human unless otherwise authorized”. Amazon’s Virtual Voice is the one AI route onto Audible: Amazon makes the narration itself from your Kindle ebook, as an invite-only beta in the US. ACX also tests Voice Replica, but only for professional narrators’ own voices.

We cover every option in Does ACX accept AI audiobooks?
Bandcamp
Bandcamp banned AI in January 2026: “Music and audio that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI is not permitted on Bandcamp.” If you sell spoken-word audio there, AI narration is out (Bandcamp’s announcement).
How to label AI narration correctly
Every store asks for the same thing in different words: tell listeners the voice is AI before they buy.
| Where | Where the label goes | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify | A checkbox when you upload | Spotify adds a sentence to your description |
| Google Play | Narrator field | “Synthesized voice” |
| Kobo | Narrator field and description | “Synthesized Voice” (or Female or Male Synthesized Voice) |
| Apple Books | Title or narrator field, and description | That the narration is AI |
| Storytel | Narrator field and metadata | “Name (AI voice)” |
| OverDrive (via PublishDrive) | The start of your description | “This audiobook is narrated by AI.” |
| Author’s Republic | Two questions at upload | It adds “This audiobook is narrated by an AI voice.” |
A clone of your own voice still counts as AI narration everywhere. Your name can be in the credit, but the AI label stays.
How to choose where to publish
- Start with the three direct stores. Spotify, Google Play (if your account has audiobooks) and Kobo are free, non-exclusive and take AI narration from any tool.
- Add a distributor for everything else. Author’s Republic reaches the longest list of stores for AI audio. PublishDrive suits you if you publish lots of titles and would rather pay a flat fee.
- Sell from your own site too. It’s the only place with no rules and the biggest share.
- Skip Audible for now, unless Amazon invites your ebook into Virtual Voice.
Whichever you pick, the files are the same: MP3s for each chapter, a square cover and accurate details. An AI audiobook generator like ours makes the files those stores ask for, so you can upload to all of them from one export.
FAQ
Can I publish an AI-narrated audiobook on Audible?
Not one you made yourself. ACX only accepts human narration. Amazon’s Virtual Voice, which makes AI narration from your Kindle ebook, is the only AI route, and it’s an invite-only beta in the US.
Which stores accept AI-narrated audiobooks?
Spotify, Google Play Books and Kobo take them directly. Apple Books, Storytel, Chirp, BookBeat, Audiobooks.com and libraries like Libby take them through a distributor. Your own website takes anything.
Do I have to say my audiobook is AI-narrated?
Yes. Every store that accepts AI narration asks you to label it, and Storytel and Voices by INaudio say they can remove titles that hide it. Labelling also protects you from refunds and bad reviews.
Can I use Voices by INaudio for an AI audiobook?
Only if it was made with Google Play Books, ElevenLabs or Spoken Press, and you send the unmodified package from that tool. For audio made elsewhere, use Author’s Republic or PublishDrive.
Is a cloned voice of my own treated as AI narration?
Yes. Stores and distributors treat a voice clone as AI narration, even when it’s your own voice. Storytel has its own label for it: “(Authorized voice replica)”.
Can AI-narrated audiobooks go into libraries?
Yes. Libby (OverDrive) carries them when they’re flagged, through PublishDrive, Author’s Republic or Voices by INaudio. Readers can choose to hide them, so label yours clearly.
Ready to make yours?
Most of the audiobook world is open to AI narration now, as long as you’re honest about it. Upload your manuscript, give it a voice, and you’ll have files ready for Spotify, Google Play, Kobo and your own shop the same day.
